Hello everyone!
Our chicken journey began 6 months ago when we were gifted a rooster. Yes, someone gave us a rooster as a gift.
We had been planning on getting chickens eventually so his arrival just sped up things. Other projects were put off so we could turn part of our barn into a coop, and build a large fenced pen for them. We have many vegetable and flower gardens so free ranging isn’t a year round option.
We went to an animal auction and bought 2 hens, so the rooster would have some ladies, only to later find out they were elderly and no longer lay eggs! They have affectionately been named “The Grannies” (anyone with Bluey-loving children will understand) by our 4 year old. We managed to get an egg laying chicken from a friend so we finally have some fresh eggs! Her name is Chicken Little, not sure what breed she is but she is friendly and curious.
We currently have some 8 week old pullets (hopefully all hens) that have been keeping me busy. They are all Easter eggers/barnyard mixes.
We also have a house full of spoiled housecats. I’m a stay at home mom to our 4 year old. She loves the chickens and helps out a lot.
