Hi. My midget white hen is lifting her leg and then shaking. I think she is in pain and I have given her Rimadyl which was prescribed at another time for pain.
She has just hatched 7 chicken eggs and is getting around okay. I wonder if anyone has some idea what might be going on with her. I have tried to examine her and do not see anything wrong with her leg. It's been cold here but its warmer today.
thank you

So, she had been brooding until just the other day (when the chicks hatched)? Our hens, after setting for extended periods will often lift one & then the other leg, after leaving nest, curl the toes of the lifted leg a bit, and then entire leg trembles/vibrates for 15-30 sec., this is often repeated. I'd guess it has to do with trying to return circulation to muscles/legs/feet after extended inactivity (at most - rolling the eggs, rearranging bedding, in the nest before plopping down on them again). After, sometimes, two solid days on the nest ours can appear at the door of the shed ambulating in pretty stove-up/gimpy manner (when we see the `st-st-st-stretching' of legs).
