Yesterday, I noticed my SLW was laying down a bit. In the run and while free ranging, I noticed later that she was limping. This morning, it seems a little worse. I felt absolutely everywhere and I dont feel anything, she doesnt seem to be bothered by me touching any spot.

Is there anything I can do? She is my top girl and I just added 2 hens 2 days ago and she has made it known that SHE is in charge. I am not sure if she injured it fighting with the new ones or what. When she was really going at it to the new one, I just had to intervene and I kind of pushed her on the ground so I feel bad that I probably did this to her!

I really hope I dont have to separate her because I am so stressed out with all the other stuff and I am so busy with work this week. Ugh!

Check her hips. See if she could have dislocated something from fighting.

Could just be a strain, or she could have the beginning of Mareks. I hope it isn't. I would separate. The others could easily hurt her.

Agh, I hope not either! I felt her hips and didnt feel anything, but I dont know if I would know what it felt like if it was dislocated. I am completely inexperienced with injuries (I've been lucky). I can tell what leg it is, when she was laying in my lap she leaned onto the other leg more.

Any other symptoms I should look out for? She and the other hen are 16 months and came home together from a hatchery ( think), the other 2 were just added. If that helps :/

My rooster is like this too. I have been unable to find a thing wrong with him but dislocated hip sounds right. Hopefully thats "all" it is and I can pop it back into joint. Have you any tips on doing that?

I have never wormed them, I thought it was something you do when you suspect worms. Do you also do it as a preventative?

I do have some on hand.

I can take pictures to see if you guys see anything I cant

Has she been laying okay? I have a hen right now that we are nursing through what we are pretty sure is internal egg laying. Her first sign was limping. As chickenzoo says maybe it is because she is feeling weak. Good luck getting to the bottom of things. It is worrisome when we don't know.

Thanks for the help, it does make me worry. I was expecting a "It should heal in a couple days" Mareks, internal laying? you guys are freaking me out!

She lays great, almost daily and she laid one yesterday.

Here is a video

Sorry...don't mean to freak you out...just that they can be sicker than we sometimes think and early intervention is always helpful.
Has she always had that black area on her toe or could that be something?
She is beautiful...hope she is on the mend soon.

Dont feel sorry! I just worry because I am so inexperienced with injuries/illnesses.

I double checked the black spot and it was confirmed, its poop! She laid an egg about an hour ago if that eliminates anything. She slept in my arms for like 20 minutes which is usually like 5 minutes tops. When she was standing in the run she was starting to close her eyes as she was standing which was kind of off to me. And she hasnt picked on the new girl much today, like she doesnt have the energy. I dont know if shes sick, stressed, exhausted, or in pain.

Poor girl, I wish I could help her but I just have no idea whats wrong
