Hen Looking Up Instead of Forward...

I had always read about wry neck in chickens, and had thought that wry neck symptoms were pretty constant most of the time. Several months ago, I noticed my 6 year old rooster curling his neck under himself. He would, sleep that way, then wake up and jump doen from the roost. After that, I noticed that he would walk around normally, eating and pcking, and free ranging the yard. But he would just suddenly go to sleep, and then his neck would go down on the fround between his legs. He can lose his balance easily if I pick him up and place him in the coop.

I don’t know if it could be something similar with yours, but it comes and goes, and only seems to happen when he is sleeping or resting. I would give the vitamin E and B complex, and watch for further symptoms. Wry neck is usually a symptom of another problem as @Wyorp Rock described.

Last night she didn't roost and her neck was twisted while she slept...This morning she was twisting her neck and it looked unvoluntary...I went to the house to get my camera and when I got back she was out in the yard eating scratch grains and acting normal...I don't get it!!!

PS...She's had zero treatment so far...

What did you do for treatment???

I would give vitamin E 400 IU and a 1/4 of a tablet of crushed vitamin B complex daily in a little egg which has selenium daily. That is the usual treatment for wry neck. Make sure that you are feeding a balanced chicken feed, and very few treats, for the best chances of preventing a deficiency. My rooster who has this jumps off his 18 inch high roost each morning into the wall, I think because he cannot seem to see well. He has a feathered face, and it could be that he got injured.
