A few weeks ago I posted about a hen of mine who had a purple comb and wattles but was over all fine. I was told it was a heart or liver problem and there was nothing I could do. Well her comb isn't purple now, I picked her up today and can tell she is very under weight. I offered her scrambled eggs and she ate a little. I am going to go to TSC and get some wormer. I think they have safeguard and wazine. Which is better?
Also, I have corrid on hand..should I use it?
I know I could tube feed but I don't have the stuff…I can blend some food up and give it to her with an eye dropper though
Any other suggestions…oh and I checked for mites and saw none

All of my chickens lost a little weight over the winter. Some more than others. When it gets cold it seems to make sense that more calories are burned to go into keeping the birds warm. The poor roosters even got a touch of frostbite, even after having heat lights in the coop. But regardless, I changed their feed after i realized how much lighter my hens had gotten. I put them on a higher protein diet, and their slowly putting it back on. Maybe you can try using a higher protein diet until she improves. Wouldn't hurt to try. Good Luck with your bird.

If you can find Safeguard or Valbazen at TSC get one of those. Wazine will only get rid of roundworms and there are many more worms a chicken can get. Might as well use something effective. Make sure you do a repeat dose in 10 days. Personally I like liquid dewormers, to me they are just easier to administer. The Valbazen is liquid and you can use the Safeguard liquid goat dewormer.

ok I just weighed her and dosed her with safe guard. she weighed 2.5 pounds…yeah she's very underweight. and I gave her .5cc of safeguard followed with 9cc of sav a chick water with nutridrench. I then dusted her with poultry dust. she is drinking and eating very very little. I wonder if I could blend up a liquid supplement. Like whole milk or full fat yogurt (whichever has the most fat), a raw egg yolk, flock raiser and sav a chick water and give her that with a syringe. would that help?

Give her buttermilk mixed with scrambled egg for several days, then add her feed to it to make a mash for several more days. Redose her with the safeguard again in 10 days. Too much nutri drench can cause diarrhea.

Thanks. Yeah I only use one drop of nutria drench per quart of water for that reason. I will definitely pick up some buttermilk
