I have common symptoms with many of my hens and just can't figure out what to do to save them. They do not appear to have respiratory symptoms. But they puff up, lose weight, thin breast bone and eventually stop eating and pass. First I thought it was worms??? Any suggestions on how to treat would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

How old are your chickens? Puffing up, poor appetite with runny or bloody poops can be a sign of coccidiosis. They sometimes can develop crop impactions or sour crop, so I would feel crops first thing in the morning of any sick chicken, to see if they are emptying normally. You can rule out worms and coccidiosis by getting some droppings checked by a vet. If your hens are older and not laying eggs, they might be suffering from egg yolk peritonitis or internal laying. A necropsy should be done by you state vet on any other one you lose to look for a cause of death.

The bird is about 2.

That is the time that some birds have problems with internal laying. Try to get some droppings checked by the vet. Valbazen or SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer are good wormers. I would give her some wet feed and some chopped egg to eat. A little tuna, liver or ground meat would get some extra protein into her. Has she loss any weight when you pick her up and feel of her breastbone? Is there any swelling in her lower belly?
