My hen laid her first egg on Saturday. :clap She was pacing the run, and because she's alway been needy I went to sit with her, and she immediately went to work making a nest. I was so proud! She seems to be laying pretty regularly, but only when I'm with her. I was out all day today, but I let her sit on me nearly every night, because I spoil her. In case you don't see where this is going... she laid an egg on my shoulder. Just let it out to roll out of her way. :thI'm glad it didn't break, but I'll be leaving her in someone else's care for a while, and I'm worried about how she'll handle it. Does anybody have any suggestions on what to do other than asking her sitter to sit out with her during the day?

You could get her a friend if she's an only bird. Also wooden eggs or golf balls placed in the nest will train her where to lay it.

I have six younger chickens and four ducks, but she's made it clear she doesn't want any of them too close when she's laying. :idunno I'll start looking for a fake egg for her though, thanks.
