1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
Black Australorp, just shy of 2 years old. Not sure what her actual weight is. Her weight seems about normal.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
She is not acting herself. Keeping away from the other birds, a bit lethargic, hanging in the coop or run instead of foraging in the yard. She has a poopy butt and I found poop on her wing feathers today. I'm thinking she sat beneath the roost last night and got pooped on. She's usually the most feisty of the group, and generally is the bully of the flock. She also laid an egg a few days ago that had a lot of blood in it. The entire egg white was red. She has not laid an egg since. She has been an unreliable egg layer since an attack last year. (I believe it was mink). She was one of my only surviving chickens, and had a few small puncture wounds, but made a pretty quick recovery and everything about her was pretty normal except her egg laying. Sometimes I won't get eggs from her for weeks, and when I do, I usually only see about 2 a week. But her behavior has always been normal and seems to be healthy otherwise. Her eyes seem clear, but she looks tired, like its a lot of effort to keep her eyes open. Her comb and waddles look red and healthy. I do not see any signs of infestations.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
I've noticed shes been a little off now for a few days... Maybe 3 or 4 days ago is when I first noticed. Today I can tell something is definitely up.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
No, but I think I'm going to quarantine her today.
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
Other than the bloody egg, not that I can tell.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
I really can't think of anything.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Not great... it was foamy had some yellow in it, I will add a picture.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Nothing yet. I am going to cage her in the basement to keep her away from the rest of the flock to monitor her more closely and clean up her butt area.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
I would like to treat myself. I don't have the budget to take her to a vet right now.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
N/A
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use
The girls live in a large shed sized coop. They have a roost over a poop board in which I use powdered sweet pdz and scoop it weekly. The floor of the rest of the coop is wood shavings. They have a dirt run, and have access to a larger fenced yard for ranging.
