Hi I have an almost 5 year old barred rock hen and I found her all puffed up sitting by herself outside today. She doesn’t want to walk, she just wants to sit puffed up, she is a little eating and drank quite a bit of water today. I brought her inside to be warm (I
live in Wisconsin and it cold here) and so I could keep an eye on her.
She isn’t pooping but did squirt two decent loads of diarrhea (tmi but oh well) but that’s been over an 8 hour period.

What do you think it could be?

Does she have any food in her crop? Is her crop empty and flat, full, firm, doughy, or puffy/squishy? Is her tail held up or down? Do you have any pictures of her or her poop? Has she been molting recently or laying eggs? Can you make sure that she is offered food and water several times a day. She may be weak if she is having problems walking.

Her crop is emptying.
Her tail is facing up when not laying on side
She hasn’t been molting or laying recently
She’s drinking and eating. More drinking than eating, I’ve added poultry drench to her water.
She’s being picky and only will eat dog food and cooker rice out of the things I’ve offered.

Her poop looks like thin mud and smells like chicken broth. She’s done this 5 times over maybe 20 hours.

I’m thinking it’s a vitamin deficiency.

I’ve dealt with a crop impact, egg bound, water belly, respiratory issues, and mites over my short 5 years experience. So just basing it off that but still I’m very new to chickens.
