Hen - Occasional eye bubbles, stopped laying, change in comb

Hi enola, I have some information for you. If you can get Maldison wash or Malaban Wash, this will do the chooks and the coops.

Maldison - use 0.5% in 1L to swab chooks. Use a sponge but don't spray the chook. Repeat 7 to 10 days if necessary.
- use 3% in 1L to spray the coop and run. Chooks must be well out of the way.

Malaban - use the same as Maldison. Malaban is the name of it here in Aus.

These products are poison so you must wear protective gloves, cover nose and mouth and wear protective eye glasses.

Active constituent ; 200 g/L Maldison (an anticholineserase compound) Solvent; 633 g/L Xylene

Just follow the intstructions on the container. You can also use this on cats and dogs. Use it as a preventative if you wish.

Hi AlexChat. Thus us a solution for your troubles.

Maldison - 0.5% to 1L of warm water. use a sponge and swab the chook. Do not use on her face of on any bare skin. - use 3% to 1L of warm water to spray the coop. The chooks must not be in the coop at the time, but can go in once it is dry.

Malaban - Same as Maldison, that is the name of it here in Aus.

Active constituent; 200 g/L Maldison (an anticholinesterase compound) Solvent; 663 g/L Xylene

This is Poison, so wear protective gloves, mask and eye glasses.

You can use this as a preventative as well and can also be used on cats and dogs. Hope this helps.

Snow Bunny, please be so kind as to post the links you referred to in earlier posts. I am still not sure of the parasite diagnosis and really want to be convinced.

Thank you for your research on how to treat and prevent infestations. I don't know if those products are available in the USA, but, I trust if they are casportpony can find a source.

The directions I just found online for Maldison 50 say to mix as follows:
Coop - 20 ml per 1 liter
Birds - 5 ml per liter

As always, please check my math!

Hi Casportpony, you have done it again, haven't you. What I quoted came straight from the vet. 0.5% 1L for birds, 3% 1L for coops. MALABAN IS THE NAME OF IT IN AUSTRALIA. The quotes that I have given are safe for chooks. Enlarge them and take a very good look. The closet our tick fleas are to anything is stuck tight fleas. So I suggest you go with that. I have done my best to inform you lot. So now I am leaving this site as I have had enough of this OK. I try to do the right thing for everyone, but No you just cannot take the advice given.

@Snow bunny , sorry you feel that way.

People here that know me know that I'm very thorough when it comes to figuring out doses, and in your post #51 you mention two different products, Malaban and Maldison, neither of which are available here in the US and pretty sure they aren't in the UK either.

Okay... so I did some research and it looks like they are not the same, one is 20% maldison the other is 50% maldison, so the amounts one would use per liter will be different, right?

In the US I found two malathion sprays, one is 50%, the other is 55%.

In post #51 you say to use a certain percentage, which is fine, but you also said this "Just follow the instructions on the container", which is what I provided in post #58 and here. Unfortunately I cannot find any instructions for Malaban Wash. Maybe you could share with us how many ml per liter you use?

The instructions for Maldison 50 (50% maldison) to make one liter are:
  • Coop - 20 ml per 1 liter
  • Perches - 62.5 ml per 1 liter
  • Birds - 5 ml per one liter

50% product

20% product

Hope this helps someone.
