Hen on bedrest for broken pelvis has the runs- suggestions?

Just saw this.

Georgie did seem to recover, but after about 6 months she started failing. She had returned almost to normal, so we were perplexed.

She never started laying again, so we prepared ourselves expecting there was something internal we couldn't fix. She passed peacefully one day after starting to look very yellow and sickly.

I sent her off for a necropsy to better understand what had happened, and it was determined that an egg had broken inside and she had dies of yolk peritonitis. Has she not had a broken egg during the fall, she might have lived and recovered completely.

Best of luck for your hen!

My hen had to be put down. After two weeks of confinement her pelvis and spine weren't healing. She began having a hard time eating and tipped over a lot when she tried to walk. Thanks for your update, and sorry about your hen.

Gosh, sorry about yours, too! It's been many years and I still remember Georgie as one of my sweetest, most wonderful hens...and I've probably had 500 birds since then.

They are special animals!
