Hen on deathbed

Hello, i have three hens who all have syptoms consisting of: weight loss, puffed up, not very active, and seem to be sensitive in the abdominal area. I want to do everything i can for them, but i just can't keep taking every chicken that gets sick to the vet. So if any of you had any other tips, such as homeopathic maybe, that might work. I would reall appreciate it! Thank you

Hey, sweetpea! I don't know much in the way of chickens, and am having a problem myself, but you said there's pain in their abdominal region? Are they layers? Perhaps they are egg bound. Does the soft part of their underside near the vent seem hard, or have a hard object in it?

Also, what is their diet so far? Maybe they ate something they shouldn't have?

Well see we had a hen a few months ago who had all of the same problems, and we took her to the vet and they said she had a reproductive infection. They gave her sone antibiotics, and she's fine now. But the problem is i cant keep taking every chicken that gets sick to the vet, but i really want to try and help them. I felt they're abdomen and it isn't hard. I'm constantly making sure there isn't any thing in there coop or pen, that they shouldn't eat. As far as they're diet, i give them regular layer feed, cracked corn once in a while, and oats too sometimes. I'd really appreciate any tips you might have, thank you!

The only death we have had with our original 25 chickens : starvation, being egg bound due to a crooked tail, and a hawk. We now have 21 as 2 bad roosters were ... taken care of... and eaten. I shot with .22 instant death. Anyways the egg bound was strange for a day very tired. Laying weird. Then that night she was obviously about to die. And she did. That is the only info i have. It seems urs is not egg bound :)

Now I'm wondering if she just has botulism. The temperatures soared pretty high and we had a plague of flies. Maybe she's sick because she ate some flies that had been visiting a decaying carcass?

What are you feeding her now? If she is not declining further, then consider force feeding here a slurry of chick starter using a syringe and hose. If I am correct you should see a strengthening within minutes. You need to get her to bounce back quickly or let her go.

I have never heard that flies can cause botulism. My chickens do not eat flies.Probably because they are to fast.

I think your chicken could have eaten something it cannot digest actually now that this person has me thinking! Because my chickens eat all sorts of bad things despite lots of times my family has gone on clean up for the chickens journeys
