One of my hens is sitting on hatching eggs I bought off ebay. They have a week to go. I live in Northern Indiana. It's starting to get down in the 40's at night already. Will the eggs hatch and will the chicks stay warm enough when they do hatch and make it through October? Did I wait too late in the year? Thanks for your replies.

I have had broody hens hatch and raise chicks outside in the middle of winter with no problems. Their bodies are perfectly designed to keep the eggs and the chicks warm. The chicks will crawl under momma when they feel cold and you'd be amazed how much time they spent running around, even when it's really cold. These little things are tougher than we give them credit for. Good luck with your hatch!
