Hen on nest first time this season but no egg. Normal?

I took in my brothers hen and rooster and they are 3 yo buff Orpingtons. Her comb turned red two days ago and grew bigger so I made her a nest. this morning she was on the nest for three hours but didn’t leave an egg. I just lost a girl in a different flock of mine bc on her first egg back of the season the egg was stuck in her. Can this be a normal thing to visit the nest a few days before laying an egg or is it likely I’m dealing with another stuck egg?

Thank you! She laid a thin shelled egg plus this weird red yolk encased with attached balloon looking thing separate overnight so this explains why she didn’t leave anything yesterday. I’m not too worried at this point since it’s her first egg back but I’ll see what happens over the next few days. Thanks again.
