Hen or Cockerel?

Oh great. How will he change the dynamic of my established flock? My other girls will be going on three.
I have 22 laying hens and I am adding 20 more chicks.
If he's a good rooster he should be fine in your flock. If he's a bad rooster he'll be aggressive toward all the hens and stress them out, he also may attack you. Hopefully he'll be a good rooster, time will tell.

I’m trying to handle him as much as possible so he gets used to me. I guess I will have to get used to not being the only guy around here .

Someone is going to come along and tell you not to handle your cockerels.
That isn't me.
I treat them the same as my hens. If I need to pick one up to look him over or treat for an injury or trim spurs, I want him to be used to being handled. I have three, from 1 to 4 years, I can walk up and pick any of them up. I won't keep a rooster that isn't gentle. Best of luck with yours!

Hello,
I’m a new member of this site but have been following for years. I have been keeping chickens for three years now and have always ordered hens. I received my last order and one of my Black Aulstraups appears to be a he. I currently have this breed and this one doesn’t look or act like the others. I have to be honest, I am particularly fond of the little guy.
I hope you are (fond of) 'cause he will be a mighty roo one day
