Hen or Roo- Penedesenca

Actually the Rural King in Lake Wales, FL. We just wanted the Columbian Wyandotte and Ameracauna, but saw Penedesenca straight run and decided to take a chance in hope of getting some dark brown eggs.
Depending on the breeder, you may get normal brown eggs or extremely dark reddish maroon eggs (the standard). Time will tell. Rural King got the chicks from an area hatchery. I'm not sure which hatchery is SE US carries penedesencas.

Good choice though.

Interesting, I look forward to finding out on the eggs. Really relieved she’s a pullet, didn’t want to try to find a good home for a rooster.

We got our first batch of five chickens from that same rural king in november, I saw the Penedesenca’s there at that time but didn’t have a clue what they were.

There’s still not a bunch of information or pictures out on them.

We used to have a website for them but it expired and I hope to rekindle it soon. There is much more information on Catalonian/Spanish sites but may need to be translated.
There were penedesenca and dark layers yahoo groups you may investigate that had good info.
I would call the manager at Rural King and find out which hatchery they source from. If you find out, let me know.

So after a few frustrating phone calls, I learned they order from Privett Hatchery in NM. Going to call them and see what egg color they lay.

Please keep me informed.

Here are a couple pictures- one of the younger ones and one of the older ones closer to giving us that first egg...
