I bought this little one being told 80% chance it was a girl. My boyfriend didn't care and named her Gandalf the Grey anyway despite it being a boys name, except, the other day, I caught her making some rather odd sounds, so now I'm thinking, she might actually be a he :( I am very new to chickens, Ive only had them 4 weeks so her "odd sounds" might actually be normal.

She's between 10 and 11 weeks old. And apparently, she/he is an Belgian Bantam.

I think it's a pullet. I don't see any sickle feathers on her. We'll see what others think.

At 10 weeks old, I wouldn't expect saddle or hackle feathers and I wouldn't expect a pullet to be that red! I don't have any personal experience with the breed but, I'm saying roo!

Love the name. That's a boy if only 10 weeks old. He's so beautiful!

I'm going to have to agree now- cockerel, and the last picture- the comb is not as red.. different day?

The bottom picture was taken a few days before. I'm so sad now, my dad won't let me keep a roo because they're too noisey apparently :( maybe the guy I bought him from will let me exchange him, doubt it though :( thank you for your replies :)

This might be a silly question also, but if it wasn't a belgium bantam but something else, would that make a difference? I really want to keep him, they sold me him as a her, perhaps the breed is wrong also?

Sorry, but the breed really doesn't matter. Any breed with a comb that red at that age is a cockeral.

It's probably not "pure" but it does look like a BBDA, if it doesn't have feathered feet.
