hen or roo?

how can u guys tell? its just when i posted the question when she was younger, 18 weeks, i was told a hen!! i guess this will be my first (and hopefully only) mixup

Roos generally have bigger combs and wattles and longer tails. Those large wattles and that long-ish tail in your photo made me immediately think rooster. It gets easier to tell the difference the more time you spend watching your chickens.

If you get a roo in your batch of chicks it helps to watch them growing up so you can see the differences developing.

In my first batch of storebought chicks I got one surprise rooster and I suspected that "she" was a "he" at about 4 weeks old because his coloring and comb were different than the others. He is now a proud papa and with his batch of chicks, hatched at home by the broodies, I could tell which babies were roos at around 5 weeks. (Some breeds you can tell on Day 1 by color/feather sexing/etc but not all.) All my young roos have started crowing and fighting at about 8 weeks old too (they worked it out, we now have 5 roosters and no fighting).
