hen or roo??

The lady I purchased her from had her in deplorable conditions and in the sun in a small cage with no shade. Also with no other birds. Who knows. Maybe the bird is just a mean bird or maybe has been mistreated. All I know is she has attacked some of my other birds and came after my daughter (who is only 5) this morning. Pretty aggressive. Guess I'll have to wait and see....

If you just got her yesterday, for heaven's sake give her some time! Adult animals do NOT move well and behave weird the first few days in their new homes. Horses fence walk, gallop around, call/scream, etc. Goats test fences, call/scream, etc. Chickens are terrified, very vocal looking for their "lost" flock members, and not in a frame of mind to be a sweet pet. Give her a few days, and it will probably take a few weeks for her to really settle in. I know I'd be less than congenial in her situation

Here here!

Going after a human isn't normal, but it's totally normal for a new bird to step in and spar with other birds. If they don't spar, how do they know who is dominant over who? I had a hen, raised with a flock for 3 years. Had to pull her out to brood, she'd been out of that group maybe 2 months. Put her back in today, the first hour or so was spent sparring with the other hens, to re-configure where she now fit in in the flock. If you're gonna be the boss, you've got to kick some butt
