Sorry for any confusion my answer caused.
Pullet = female. Pullet is the term for a young female, hen for a mature female - some use laying/not laying as the cut off but from a technical standpoint the generally accepted point is the age of 1 year.
Likewise, cockerel = young male/rooster = mature male
