Hi can anyone tell me if these are roosters or hens? They are all about 10 weeks old. The black one (opal) is Ameraucana, the gray (peaches) and tanish colored (nugget) are silkies, and the white splash (oreo) is a Frizzled Sizzle. I'm pretty sure opal and nugget are hens and thinking that peaches is a rooster, and I have no idea on the sizzle. Also any thoughts on if opal is a true Ameraucana? I was told by the breeder she was but you never know. She has small muffs coming in and slate color legs...Thanks for all the help.

Opal is an EE pullet. I'm curious how you can tell the genders of the Silkies and Sizzles though? The only thing I can see enough to judge gender is their crests, which look full and round like pullets to me... :)

The grey one also is developing streamers, which is often a sign of a cockerel. Also, Silkie cockerels always have a more upright posture than pullets do, as the Sizzle and the grey Silkie do.

I do see what could be streamers on that grey chick. I'm not so sure about the upright posture though. I've been breeding Silkies and Sizzles for years, and my pullets stand that way too. They also spar and raise their hackles like the cockerels do.

A few of the many reasons theyre so tough to sex!

I agree with you there! Silkies are one of the hardest breeds to sex!
