Help, I don't know enough to be able tell if my babies are pullets or cockrels. They are about 5-6 wks old. One is white with red specks. I thought it was RIR but not so sure now. She is the runt. Doesn't seem to be growing as fast as the others. Her tail sticks straight out and feathers are not pointed but her comb is quite red. I have 3 EE for sure. One has a very red comb, one is white has a beautiful tail that the feathers curl on the end but not as much comb and it is not very red(pretty sure that one is a male)one has a comb started but it is not very red. They are beginning to molt some of their feathers. It is 94 degrees here in Alabama will that make the combs and wattles redder? Any help you can offer is appreciated. I just started raising chickens in March. I have lost 2 and replaced them with 4 more. I am very attached but I can not have a rooster. I am not really suppose to have these hens.

I bet with pics we could help you with both sex and breed.
If you don't know how to post pics, feel free to PM me and I'll try to help you out.

Sorry I have no pics of the new flock. I am working on it but they are not co-operating.

I know what you mean. They won't pose. Thank goodness I have a 2G SD card in my camera. Take lots and lots of shots and expect only a small % of them to be useful.

I get best results by getting out there and just sitting still maybe bring a few treats and let them come around. Don't bother with the zoom because they will be blurry. You can crop and reduce the images on the computer before uploading for use here. Best light is when it's cloudy.

Georgie is one of the few that will pose for me by sitting on my knee. I can usually get a good closeup of his comb development.

Okay gang, I got the pics. I know I have 3 EE but I am not sure of sex. I have an ODD bird and she is very small. Her tail quivers all the time. I also have no idea what sex. I call them all girls cause I can't have boys. Oh my. I am waiting to hear what you all think.
I have listed the image number I hope I did this right. I gues I will soon know. Thanks ahead of time. Nancy

Nancy, let me start out by saying I am not an expert on EEs by any means.
I'm afraid chicks #3 and #4 are definite cockerels.

Not sure on the other two.
I'm sure some EE experts will come along with more opinions.

they have more color in their combs than any of my 5 week EE pullets had. But #2 looks like a pullet. #1 I'm on the fence. # 3 and #4 look like boys. I think #3 has some pointy saddle feathers and #4 has huge legs.

But different pictures might change my mind.

Oh dear. Does anyone have any idea what kind of chicken#4 might be? I am almost positive #1 is a female. The rest I am not sure.
