I'm a newbie to the chicken world and can't tell if this is a rooster or a hen. The back tail feathers are long like a roosters. But the comb is small and actually almost looks deformed like it's smashed on his/her head. Also, in the morning I have heard crowing coming from the coop, but I don't know if it's this chicken or not. She is also the most aggressive of the flock. She is about 4 months old. Anyone have any idea if this is a rooster or hen? Thanks in advance for your help.

that's a rooster.

See those pretty feathers hanging down in front of the tail? Only male birds have those. Same for the pointy feathers on the neck. Both will get longer and showier as he ages.

I think your confusion about the comb is because he's a Dominique, and does not have the classic straight comb you're expecting. This breed has what's called a rose comb. Here's a little chart of some different types of combs....

That is a rooster for sure. His comb is what's called rose comb and it is supposed to look like that- very low and very wide comb.

He is either a Dominique or a Barred Wyandotte
