It is a female, but that whopping comb on a buff Orpington hen, which generally have much smaller combs, may indicate that she has a damaged ovary. If she does then she won't lay and may take on rooster characteristics. I'm just guessing though.
I was just quite sure it was supposed to be a hen but for some reason she started crowing last summer which I know sometimes this will happen. However I have not yet been able to catch her trying to lay either. So I started doubting myself. I never thought of a damaged ovary. I was just thinking she was a bit confused or thought she needed to crow because my little rooster is not able to anymore for some reason. Thank you!
