We bought this Polish a couple of weeks ago. We were under the impression that it is a hen (we are new to chickens so pardon my lack of knowledge).

We also bought a few other hens that are laying eggs. This Polish hasnt laid an egg and hasnt crowed like a rooster. Its very friendly and easy going, lets me walk up to it a pick it up. Its friendly to the other hens and hasnt been chasing them to mate. My wife thinks its a rooster because it has the spurs on the back of its legs. Is that a definite sign of a rooster?

Looks to be a hen to me. A rooster would have a pronouced comb and the crest would be alot larger.

ETA: The saddle and hackle feathers are all rounded also --- hen.

Im thinking hen..had to tell though, pics need to be more of crest. I always heard/thought that if the crest feathers are rounded its a hen, pointy its a roo. They look rounded to me.

It's a hen of some advanced years which explains the spurs.
It's easy to see that the saddle feathers are rounded-they'd be pointed if it was a male.

Its a hen, the crest is much neater and not unkempt like my roosters. The hens are nice and neat and the roosters are wild.
