Our hen just hatched an egg sometime last night or this morning! It was the only egg out of 3 to make it.

The space we have her in was getting a bit dirty, so I cleaned it out for them. I put mama onto the new bedding and the chick near her, which she started making calling noises for. Once the chick started to head back to her though, she pecked at it. We distracted mama's face and put the baby right next to her so it could crawl under, which it did and it seemed like mama noticed and was fine with.

So what's the deal? Do we need to keep eye out for more aggression or was it probably just stress about us messing with her space?

I have had that happen once and so confiscated the chicks during the night to see of they were hungry and such.

What they were was mad to be out from under mum. So I tucked them back under and they lived happily ever after.

But each situation will be unique. So it's good to be aware.

I think the mom has pecked them to say get back under me, I'm still learning your voice and we aren't ready to leave the nest yet.

It's always a little scary. And not being SURE what her intentions are... makes it a nerve racking decision to let it be or takeover. So far latting it be has worked out best for me. :fl :jumpy
