I posted yesterday about this but I think I need to further explain the problem and see if someone could give me some advice. I should have been more specific. My hen constantly pecks my rooster's comb. He lets her do it. She has pecked the comb so much, it is battered and black. It gets bloody everyday. We took her out yesterday and I ordered pinless peepers this morning. She does not peck anybody else, and none of the other hens peck the rooster. We have been trying to treat his comb daily. We cleaned it up as best as possible and I put some coconut oil on it. After having her out, it is already starting to look better. No bleeding since she's been gone. My question is, I don't want to have her segregated too long and then try to put her back in while I wait on the peepers to come in. It could take up to 2 weeks. But, as soon as I try to put her back, she goes straight to his comb. We even put pick no more on his comb and she just pecked it all off and brought blood again. So, since then she has been out of contact with him. We don't have another pen for her since it is being used by a new mama and biddy. I sincerely don't want to do anything to stress the entire flock out by putting her back in and back out until we get the peepers in. I'd rather not remove my rooster. He is adored by all the girls and he loves them so good. Plus, he is an amazing protector. Any advice on what to do while waiting on the peepers would be appreciated. I am just afraid if I keep her out too long she will end up being bullied when we put her back in. Sorry so long. This is the first time anything like this has come up with our chickens.....Thanks bunches for any help!
