I have a hen that I saw yesterday has a kinda lump?bump? I really don't know what to call it. It's in the back of her
her right buy her vent. I did think it was a egg that was maybe fixing to be layed. That's what it looks like kinda
sticking out the size of a egg. Has any body ever seen this. I would think I would have seen it before now if it was
there. Oh, I didn't see any place on it to drain out either. Can you tell me what this is? She is a young pullet(light
sussex) just started to lay.

sounds like a prolaspe vent, happens in young hens. she will need some prep H or honey put on the tissue to reduce the swelling, then with some lub on your gloved finger gently push it back in her, it may pop out again, so repeat. the tissue must be kept moist or it will dry out and kill her, so act asap. If the egg is still stuck in her give her a warm bath to help relax her muscles and lub up her vent with KY or olive oil, repeat as necessary until she passes the egg. Then keep her in a darken area for a few days so she won't make another egg to give her time to heal up and separate her from the others they will peck at the tissue and kill her. good luck
