Hen-raised chicks and pasted vents

I guess I just figured since a momma hen isn't designed to lick a baby's butt, it's not normal for a baby chick to have pasty butt.... I'm not sure what I do different from folks that have staggering losses or spend days cleaning butts, guess I'm just lucky?
What you are doing different donrae is that YOU ARE NOT buying from, breeding from, or hatching from stock infected with Salmonella Pullorum. You are doing everything right whether you know that you are doing everything right or not. Keep up the good work. Folks, only breed from and buy healthy stock and if you are offered a deal on some low mileage chickens without a Pullorum Certificate don't let those chickens cross the road to your house.
