Hen Recovering from Dog Bite

Hey Everyone!

Here's the end of the story:

We kept her in our extra bathroom for 3 months and one week. Our winter weather let up long enough that we could get her back out several hours a day under supervision with the rest of the flock (3 other hens).

There were some initial pecking order issues, but the first morning after being out all night with the rest of the hens, she stood proudly by the door of the coop and crowed LOUDLY for about 3 minutes straight. Since then, there have been no pecking-order issues.

She's been outside now for about 4 weeks FULL time, is back to giving us 6 light brown eggs a week, and is always first to the door to greet us when we go to the back yard. She also believes she can strut right into our kitchen whenever the door is open which means we have to watch carefully when ever the door is opened, and whenever we close the door. We've almost caught her head in the door a couple of times as she'd try to sneak in.

Except for an occasional peculiar head movement that looks like she might be working on swallowing, she's perfectly normal. Her feathers have filled-in, and from appearances, no one would ever know she almost died back in October.

A GIGANTIC THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to, and encouraged us following her encounter with the dog (resulting in 4 punctures to her crop, and 2 significant wounds to her neck and back).

Because of your encouragement, we were able to tackle a challenging situation and help our chicken heal.

Thanks a Bunch everyone!
