I have an about 8 month old hen that suddenly got very sick about 10 days ago. Stopped eating, drinking, opening her eyes, acted very lethargic, just stood or sat there. That day she laid an egg (last one since), but did little else. No breathing issues, no leaking fluids or swelling noted anywhere. She continued to poop normally for the most part.

I isolated her, no other birds have displayed any symptoms. I treated her with probiotics, molasses, oregano, garlic, cinnamon, and Apple Cider Vinegar mixed in Kefir Yogurt, fed by dropper. I guess it worked. Within a few days she started opening her eyes more, and moving around some. She since has started eating on her own (feed soaked in water), and even regained her appetite and is moving around more. I have noticed she does not seem very sure of her surroundings though. Sort of knocking into things, pecking at the air near her food bowl like she can't see it, etc. I think she may have impaired vision, or lost her eye sight.

Does anyone have any idea what may be wrong with her? Or what I should do, especially if she has lost her sight? How long should she remain isolated as long as she appears to be recovering? I'm afraid if her eyesight is impaired or lost, she will only be a target for the other chickens. Any and all help is welcome, thank you.

If she is blind, her pupils will be blue. I have a hen who is blind in one eye. I had to put her in a pen with my show bird and she seems to be doing just fine.

I would try to get some clear pictures of her eyes. Cloudy pupils can mean cataracts, and grey eyes can mean Mareks. A pinpoint or irregular pupil can mean Mareks also.
