Hen saver is bad!

Chickens do have that oil gland, I guess that most birds do. Waterfowl just have more oil, more need for oiled feathers.

6chickens, would you please change the title of your post? And check facts before casting aspersions on any other reliable businesses?

Thanks everyone, I found this most helpful. I was considering ordering a few hensavers and was concerned about the coverage. I was afraid that it wouldn't cover far enough down the back. But if you say that it covers the oil gland and another states that the hen can move the apron around for preening.....well it sounds exactly like what I need. THanks.

I ordered the standard/large size hen savers (for my australorp, welsummer and barred rocks, but they are too short. They only measure 7" from front to back, and did not cover the area by the tail that was getting pecked by others. Just some info so others can measure first.

How long can the hen savers stay on before taking them off to wash or give the hen a rest. Is it possible that something could get under the hen saver and cause it to rub on the hen and cause an infection. Will the elastic eventually cause a sore from rubbing on the skin. We are new to having chickens as a hobby or past time. We have one rooster and seven hens. I am worried that we may be leaving them on too long.

I had zero problems with "saddles" on mine, other than they gave me dirty looks when I first put them on. Preening was not an issue for them. They managed it like they weren't wearing anything.
