My Austrolorp, Annie, seems to be struggling. I have been waiting for her to lay her first egg as she's around 8 months old now and has yet to lay. Today as I was sitting and having a coffee I notice her squatting and making little strained clucks. I got all excited and watched on, hoping I would witness her first egg. Unfortunately she just gave up and started walking around at which point I noticed she has poo stuck to her bum. I've heard this can happen when they struggle to lay and/or are eggbound. Has this happened to anybody else? Should I do anything or give her some time? She's a beautiful bird, I don't want to neglect her and have her get ill or die.

    Did you inspect her vent?
    Is her stool too loose?
