On of my 3 year old hens is not as active as usual. She is not as competitive within the flock as normal. She seems to be losing some weight. She is eating and drinking, but isn't eating as much as normal. She does seem slightly lethargic. Something isn't right.
She moves her head/neck to the side like she is trying to get something out of her throat. I read about gapeworm and watched a video of a hen "gaping". It doesn't seem to be this. She isn't struggling for air. There is no foul smell. Her crop is soft. Her poo is normal, I think. She doesn't have sinus symptoms, mucus, sneezing or coughing.
I have never wormed the flock or given them antibiotics. There were 6 in the flock originally. Two other flock members died 8 months to a year ago, one from ovarian cancer and another from oomphalitis (a bacterial infection of the oviduct). Both necropsies showed no signs of worms.
Any suggestions what else I can look for or what I can do?
