Hello,

I have 3 backyard hens. My dominant sassy gal is an Australorp. 2 weeks ago she was attacked by our dog. I was able to her to safety before he did real damage. Her tail feathers were pulled out with a minor abrasion (looked like a small road rash). She has recovered her confidence quite quickly. However today I noticed her hiding in the corner while her sisters were gleefully running about the yard. Not sure if she has an infection from the attack (I don’t see open wounds, just a big poop stain where her missing feathers are). What should I do?
Thanks 🐓🐓🐓

Hi all—thanks for the help! I don’t have pictures yet, but I’ll get some soon. She is eating well and drinking well. After some research I’m feeling like a terrible chicken mother. I think she may have vent gleet. I thought it was a poop stain from a lack of tail feathers. Bath time today and I was wondering about two things: (1) Is it safe to use an OTC athletes foot cream on my girl? And (2) I’m not sure if it was food, water or another factor that gave her this...I wanted to “treat” their water with something to help keep bugs out. Is this a common practice and if so, what is used? Thanks 💗🐓
