Hen sitting and not taking care of 3 day old chick ?

My hen was laying on 9 eggs .... one chick hatched 3 days ago. She is still sitting on the other 8 eggs. How long can the little chick survive if she is not teaching it to eat or drink?

Do you have a dish of food and water close to where the chick can get to it?

Have you candled the eggs to make sure they are still viable?

I moved hen to brood box once the chick hatched and put food and water where hen and chick can safely get to it. Removed hen from eggs and she ate a little and went back on her eggs. The little chick stayed with her, but did not know to eat. How long can it survive if she doesnt start teaching it to eat and drink She keep it under her at all times

No, I have not candeled the other eggs. Have never done that before ? Do know other hens laid eggs later so eggs all not the same age.

I would guess only a couple of days. Have you thought about pulling it away for m her and teaching it yourself?

No ... it is so small and mother hen is so protective. Would like her to care for it. So I may have to remove all the other eggs for her to take care of the one little survivor???
Have never raised one chick on its own Have raised several and they take care of each other providing warmth, etc. Have you raised a single chick and it survived ??

Thank you for information. Seems I need to make a quick decision between the baby chick and the other eggs, which may not have live chicks. As was recommended Texas KiKi, should candle the 8 other eggs. The baby chick seemed strong an hour ago.

I would candle the eggs to see if they will hatch if they will not hatch then I would remove the eggsso the mother will Focus on the baby that she has
