Hi folks,
I'm Dan and I'm new to the forum but read it for a couple years. We have a RIR that is sitting on 8 eggs. One hatched today, our first baby. Anyway, should we leave the chick in the nest with mom? We took it out and put it in a box with water, feed and heat lamp.
Any help is appreciated.......thanks

We used to just leave them alone, she'll take care of the chick and the chick will just crawl under momma while she's sitting. Sometimes we get too involved in the natural process of things. It'd be another story if they we incubated

If she is doing well with the baby and not picking on it, then I would leave them together. We had one mama where we had to intervene, and more recently we took two of the 6 away from mama as they needed quiet to gain strength; but in general, I think it is best to let nature do its thing and leave them with mama if at all possible. Congrats on your new baby!!!
