An otherwise normal buff orpington walks around in the middle of the night doing odd things. She doesn’t eat or drink, goes to the roost, but doesn’t lay. Pretty sure it’s not Meth.
any ideas?
Sometimes chickens do walk around at night.
In the picture it looks like the door to the run is open. Is that right? If it is open, then I would keep that closed at night. You don't want a chicken walking around outside when she can't see any potential predators.
Also, I would keep a few wooden stakes on hand. Just in case.
In my neck of woods where we have game cameras, more often than not I can see evidence of something that disturbed the roosting bird causing it to come off roost. Fox and owl can both do it.
The majority of my chickens go to roost around 5pm, but I do have some that wait until there’s barely any light left to get on the roost. I’ve had them walk around because they’re lost in the dark and can’t figure out where the roost is.
