Honestly, though, why does stuff always happen to the friendliest chicken in the flock?
Background: So, my hen is about 1.5 years old, buff orpington, got her from a friend, but originally from a hatchery. I feed my flock Dumor laying feed. 2 other hens and a rooster in the flock.
Symptoms: She will slowly twist her head around so it's facing almost completely backwards. She turns it to the left, only to the left. She will walk around with it held normally, but mostly she just stands still with it resting on her back(not tucked under her wing). She doesn't flip her head upside down, she just twists it around. She is also slightly lethargic, but she was unusually hard to catch when I noticed her acting wierd. She is also staying away from the other chickens(which was one of the reasons I noticed something was wrong). She has some small scabs on the right side of her face(I'm blaming the rooster for that, he's a bit pushy with the hens).
I've just noticed this today. She just had some water, and she doesn't seem and lighter or heavier than normal, and there's a little food in her crop, so she at least ate this morning.
Unfortunately, the vet is not an option.
I currently have her seperated in a small run(usually free range), but tonight I'll have to put her in the coop with the other hens, or I guess I could put them in the small run(covered but chicken wire, not hardware cloth) and keep her in the coop. Low temp tongight will be 23 F, and I don't want her outside in the cold. I don't have another coop for her, though. Sunset's in an hour, so I'll have to figure this out fast.
Could it be parasites? Or wry neck? Ask if you need any other information.
Her name is Faith.
