I had a rooster that had some sort of breathing difficulties and I gave him VetRx and he cleared right up and was healthy and back to normal. It's 100% natural and gives relief from respiratory infections. Don't know if it would cure though. It sure fixed my roo up though.

Thanks everyone for your help with my chicken Meanie, but as of today 9/26/10 she pasted away. She stopped eating and drinking. She was really having difficulty breathing. I am okay with her passing for I didn't like to see her in so much pain it broke my heart. But, you really do become attached to your chickens. She will be greatly missed.

But I do have two questions for anyone: I was told about Tylan50 will there is no place I can get it around here, so 1st question : where and how can I get it if any of my other chickens get what Meanie had and I need Tylan50? And 2nd question: what is & where can I get Vet Rx? Because I would like to have something on hand next time if any of my other chickens get what Meanie had. It was so hard watching Meanie just get so lifelist and I couldn't do anything to fix it. And I was told by a vet and another person I called that she wasn't going to make it and I should put her down since it got into her air sacs. Thanks again everyone for all your suggestions and help on how to try and get my chicken all better. She is deep missed, but it was for the best for her since I could see she was in such pain.

Hi Buff - So sorry for your loss. I'm am also dealing with a pullet who has been sneezing and occasionally gasps for air. I used this forum and heard about Tylan 50 so I went all over the area feed stores until I finally found one who had it. You might check with the feed stores that deal with cattle as it is basically made for cattle but used on poultry. That's where I found mine. I had tried the Sulmet at first and she got a little better but then it came back, just like yours did. It seems that the Tylan is helping but its only been about day 4 now. I rarely see her mouth breathing and only an occasional sneeze now. I am also dealing with her having balance problems when this began and one foot became paralyzed. Possibilty it could be Mareks disease, hope not, but I found info on that fron a thread on this forum and was recommended Hypericum for Mareks disease and nerve problems. I can't believe it is working! She now can stand again, her foot is uncurling most of the time and she is able to use that foot again with just a little curl in it. I think I am dealing with a multi-problem issue so my case is a little different than yours. Important though, great info on this forum, sometimes conflicting but keep up the research when treating. I'll always keep Tylan 50 on hand. Also very important is the nutrution during this period so be sure to research that. I had to syringe feed for a couple of days until she was able to eat on her own which she is doing great now. Parrot baby food (at pet stores), yogart, organic applecider vinegar OACV, Poly-Vi baby vitamines (without Iron) boosts their system. Hope this helps you in case any more start the sneezing process.

I have one question for those that have chickens for a long time. For the respiratory problems, which is the best medication? I have seen a couple of medicine suggested, so i would to see a list compiled here, if possible.

Yes, I agree someone who knows alot about respiratory problems could give a list of the best medicine for chickens to use, Or where to find info on medicine because I have tried everywhere where I live to find Tylan 50 and not one of the stores around here carrys any of it. Also, I was told it is mostly used for cattle, well there are alot of farms around with dairy and beef cattle so why would feed stores not carry this medicine. Also, I read on the antiboitic medicine I gave to my chicken in the beginning Textory it says not to consume eggs but it doesn't say for how long like it did on the medicine of the Selmet I gave to my chicken it said not to consume eggs for 10 days. So I am curoius, how do you know when you can start eating the eggs again. If anyone can help of with this medicine problem I would be very grateful. Because it is so confussing sometimes on what to do.

Hi buff - sorry to hear about meanie's passing - my harley (barred rock) also had a bad "cold" so I had to get some duramycin (antibiotic) and VetRx and gave her yogurt (thanks to a BYC suggestion) twice a day (knock on wood

), she perked right up in just about 2 days and almost a week later is doing great! My local feed store was very helpful with info, but you can find almost anything online nowadays - I did a search and found injectable Tylan 50 on amazon.com for about $9.00 - just so you are prepared for it if it happens again...and the VetRx is less than $10 from McMurray hatchery....I started a small chicken first aid kit so I would be prepared and not have to search for medicine....so far, it includes VetRx, Duramycin, and a Vitamins&Electrolyte pack...I am always looking for helpful info on BYC

Thanks, I think I am going to to start my own chicken first aid kit also, but I still would like to know what is the best medicine to have on hand for chickens such as which antibiotics, like tylan 50 better then vetrx and it would be nice to have a list of what each medicine treats the chicken best for certain things and how much dosage to put in drinking water and even when it says about can't consume eggs but some medicine doesn't say for how long not to eat eggs. It would be nice to have list from anyone and everyone so we all can make a first aid kit as to which medicine to use for sneezing, wheezing, couching, rattling, frostbite on feet or combs, what to have for bites from dogs or any other animal they get away from because I had a chicken get away for one animal not sure if it was a dog or hawk but left marks on head it was bleeding cleaned with water and put neospirin on it. So It would be nice if anyone or everyone could give a list of what medicine they keep on hand, how much to use of it, and for what they use it for to help each other so everyone can have on hand a "Chicken First Aid Kit". I only have the sulmet and textory HCI on hand but I am going to try and get the tylan50 and maybe vetrx, just not sure what I need to have completely on hand.
