HELP wheezing chicken can’t breathe!!!

I wish I had more advice. Some use a nebulizer or vaporizer if one is available. If you lose her I would do a necropsy just to look in her trachea for yellow pus or red Y-shaped gapeworms. Respiratory viruses can be severe. Have you added any new birds recently?

I really appreciate all your help. Nobody has been added since new chicks spring of 2024. I’ve been checking on the rest of the flock and nobody is sneezing, at least not yet. Very tough, this one is really struggling. It’s hard not knowing what to do.

You might want to check if there is anything stuck in a nostril that could be irritating and causing the sneezing. Have you seen any wild birds around your feeders or waterers?

I’ll try to check that. she is struggling to breathe with her mouth open though.

their feeders are inside their hardware cloth run, and they get out to forage in tractors where the water is enclosed, but no doubt there are birds nearby where they are foraging.

@Eggcessive, last night she had improved a lot. her beak was staying closed! breathing through her nostrils again. less gasping and wheezing. I saw her drink water. very good!

this morning she is sneezing more, but still has her beak closed and she’s still bright red and clear eyed. and she has an appetite! she ate scrambled egg and some wet feed mash. I got the third dose of the antibiotic in. eating seems to trigger more of the sneeze/coughing but less extreme than yesterday overall. so happy to see her eat.

will continue to monitor and offer food. the tiagard arrives later today. do you recommend I continue the meds she already started, or switch to the tiagard? I have continued the vet rx on her comb as well.

thank you for all your assistance.
