I have a new hen that I bought from a local seller, brought her home and she now sounds congested. What might it be and any remedies I can give her.

I'll try! But I'm not skilled at all with poultry illnesses.

Please see this thread and responses by @Eggcessive and @Wyorp Rock https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/hens-with-congestion.1496561/ @azygous might also weigh in with advice.

You could also try some VetRx, a natural treatment for mild respiratory problems in chickens. Should be available at your local TSC or farm supply store.

You will get some better help here if you tell us more: How old is the hen, and what conditions was she living in when you got her. If you can, make a video of her symptoms and post it on YouTube, then respond here with the link to the video.

BTW, if you have other chickens, I hope you have her quarantined separately from them! This is standard practice anytime you bring home chickens, before introducing them to your flock. She should be quarantined for a minimum of 30 days.

I hope she is allright. Please keep us posted on her progress.

You may want to check her crop in her upper right chest to monitor if it is filling up during the day as she eats and drinks, then empties normally overnight by the next morning. If it is enlarged and puffy/boggy, she might have sour crop or pendulous crop, and crop contents may be coming back up into her throat.

With respiratory diseases, you would possibly see nasal drainage, bubbles/foam or crusty drainage around eyes, crackly breathing, sneezing or coughing. Let us know what you find.

Photos or video?
For video, upload to youtube and provide a link.

How old is she?
How long after you brought her home did she show symptoms?
Did your existing flock ever have respiratory symptoms?
