I 'think' I am posting this in the correct part of the forum. Generally speaking, how far does the sound of a hen travel? I have googled this question and searched the forums and keep getting information on roosters and the Guinea hens and egg songs. So I guess that I am not satisfied that I am finding the answer to my specific question.
Zoning laws vary obviously. Some say 25' from a neighbor, some 40', some 100' and so on. I am sure that there isn't any great rational when passing chicken legislation but still I would think there would be a realistic, well thought out distance that would protect the rights of the land owner that has chickens and the rights of the land owner that doesn't wish to hear hens.
I had fifty California whites when in my twenties about 30 feet away from my house and I do not remember a sound at all. Today my nearest neighbor is 100 feet away and I wonder if the sound will consistently travel that far?
So if you were in the back of your yard and you disliked chickens, how far from the hens would you need to be to not hear them?
