Hen squatting

How much longer after a hen starts squatting and showing interest of wanting to mate. roughly how much longer before they start laying. My hen (pepper) has been squatting for almost 2 weeks. And she is 20 weeks old today.

A better method than squatting is to check the pelvic knobs on each side of her vent. They're the bony protrusions. Locate them and place two fingers between them. If you can't fit two fingers, she is still a ways from laying.

My pullets usually start laying about a month after they begin to squat.

They begin to lay when you have completely given up hope and have come to terms with the fact that you are the only one who has been chosen to have non-laying hens...then about 5 days later they lay!@

haha - you have to be getting close, but could still be a couple of weeks.

Roughly 10-14 days from my experience, provided that she's squatting due to wanting to submit to a rooster, rather than simply in submission. So, "soon" - maybe.
