Our hen suddenly passed away today and I am not sure why. She was eating etc in the morning and had a full crop, but when I returned home she had passed away in the doorway of the coop. Her cloaca was red and sore though (see pics) and we have had one of the hottest days on record today! Any ideas?

She’s a 2 1/2 year old hybrid hen.

I had this exact same thing happen to me but I saw signs of it about a day before she passed, rather quick death none the less. I had a terrible time trying to figure out what killed them. I still don’t know exactly what killed mine but I think it was coccidiosis and I began to treat their water with corid and since then I haven’t had any deaths.
Have you had hot temperatures where you’re at?

No I am in the UK. We’ve had the hottest day in July on record today so we have all been struggling! I was out at the time so didn’t pick up on anything but the others have been panting. I wonder if it was heat stress?

I heard about the heat in Europe right now. I think she could have easily had a heat stroke especially since they aren’t accustomed to much heat at all in the UK.
