I know you're not supposed to really be able to tell this early, but some of our turkeys seem decidedly male or female. This pair, for example--would it be foolish to assume that it's a hen on the left and a tom on the right?

Think you're right. When we started we read all the info we could find and the sexing was supposed to be clear after three or four months. We pretty much knew before they left the brooder (those that did the most strutting were indeed toms), and the shape of the skulls as they got older was a good indicator as well.

Nice flock of turks, by the way!

Thanks! We definitely see some "strutters" now that they're outside with plenty of room to move about!

Mine are 14 weeks old and we're still not 100% sure. I've got what I thought were females that will strut and gobble on occasion!!

At this point I'm just hoping I have a hen or two out of my flock of 11.

at 13 weeks there are 2 of 10 I am not sure of. THe rest the toms are much bigger, and have significantly larger snods.
