HEN trying to mount other hens

Help! I have an 11 month old Light Brahma that is trying to mount the other girls and she is not at all gentle about it. This just started today. What's up with her? I have heard noises several different times today that were out of the ordinary and would go see just what is going on. There was a small hawk around yesterday so I'm extra cautious. Each time she has been literally on top of one of the other girls going at it. She lays an egg most days so I am positive she is a hen - have had her since she was a month old. I've never seen this before. I don't have a roo due to local laws but I have never seen a hen behave this way. Any ideas, suggestions, etc. Has anyone ever experienced this before? Color me clueless.

Hens who do that do it as a show of dominance, which is very common in the animal world. A friend of mine has a RIR who does that on a daily basis-a real bossy butt.

Thanks, Speckled Hen. I've just never seen that particular behavior before. She is a bossy/nosey butt and since she was young has pecked at the other's combs but today... This is the first time I've had chickens without a rooster and just wondered if it had anything to do with the lack of a roo.

I have a Speckled Sussex hen that does that, and I am 100% certain she is a hen. She is the top hen in the flock, so it appears to be a dominance behavior.
