Hen turned into roo!

It is, but I think I need at least 100 chickens to keep up with the 100 parrots, lol. The pelleted food I use is just about identical to chicken feed. I use to use it on my parrots but it's so dusty I gave it up, lol. My chickens still get their own feed that is appropriate for their age. I think they eat better than I do, lol. I started meal worm "farming" a few months ago and having a blast doing that. My chickens think they are crack and will try to fly up on me to get them when they know I have brought them a container of them.
I do have two incubators now that are for chickens but I use them in emergency situations when I have to incubate eggs due to birds that will sometimes abandon their nest. I can also use them as brooders so they are double duty ones, lol.

An incubator would be better than the shoe box I used to use for abandoned cockatiels! I never had that many parrots! Dylan eats Harrison's pellets, higher protein and calcium for greys. She would probably eat a meal worm, but with only one bird I can not raise them! Maybe after the chickens arrive. Welcome to the Backyard by the way. Lots of bird people here!

Also, barks. We do not own a dog, she used too though. Car alarm, does that too. We have had her almost 3 years now, and are still discovering more things she can say and sounds she can make. If you are eating, she says, "Want more!"

Got to love them. People who have never owned a parrot have no clue how smart they are. I have a lot of talkers and love to hear them. One of my indian ring necks that I don't breed and stays in the house with me, loves to hang with me when I am hand feeding babies. He talks to them and will say Hey baby bird, whats the baby bird doing. I love you baby bird, give me a kiss or wheres my kiss. He always asks me "wheres the babes". Not babies but babes, lol. He will say babies but seems to prefer calling them babes. He has a large vocabulary. He rooms with my Alexandrien who can get loud at times, so Loki will yell "Quit" at him all the time. I guess he hears me telling him to quit yelling, lol. I also have a cockatiel that stays inside with me, he also loves to talk. I rescued him and he talked a lot when I got him. He will make the sound of a dogs squeeky toy that the previous owners dog had. He will also sound like a telephone ringing. I had to change my ring tone on my phone because I got tired of going to answer it and realize it was the bird and not my phone, lol. I'm finding out now that chickens are pretty smart as well. It didn't take long for these two to figure out when I had some good treats for them to eat. This morning I went outside to let the dogs out to potty and they heard me talking, I could see them jumping up in the air to try to see me over the metal skirting we have on the Aviary. I'm in love with them and their personalities. All birds are amazing!

Chickens speak in their own way. My cockatiel would whistle "reveille" to get the kids up. He knew what it meant, & only did it in the morning. He only loved my daughter and talked to her. When she left home, he did not talk much anymore. I got him a friend, but she never did talk. He was the smartest cockatiel I'v raised. Birds are all smarter than people believe.

I was at a park one day in NM with two of my Shelties. Someone had left a PB&J sandwich wrapped in wax paper in a bag on the picnic table where I sat to eat my lunch. A magpie flew over and started trying to get the sandwich out. I watched as he struggled, but I didn't want to interfere and possibly spook him away. After several minutes he hopped right up to me, cocked his head and lowered his shoulders, looking right at me very intently. His message was as clear as if he'd spoken: "Well???? Aren't you going to help me???" So of course I did, and he sat right there and ate it beside me, no fear of me or the dogs. He even got me to tear the sandwich in pieces for him. By the time he was done, he was sitting on my arm and shoulder and we were pretty good friends. I shed a tear when I left him there.

When I was a security guard at a Tucson call center, three crows sat in a tree above a brand-new pickup truck, taking turns jumping down on it to make the alarm go off. Then they would fly back up in the tree and I swear, giggle like a bunch of school kids while the owner came out and -once again - turned off the alarm. It took some stealthy detective work to figure out why that alarm kept going off and shoo those naughty birds away, but it was pretty funny too.

Yeah. Birds are kinda scary smart.
