Iv had my buff Orpington cross rhode island red since it was a few weeks old along with 4 pol hens. To cut a long story short a fox or cat took all the chickens bar this one ( the one thats never layed an egg) so it was on its own for a while I didn't notice The comb and wattles getting bigger at the time. I decided to get another two hens because I thought this one was lonely as soon as Introduced the two new hens (red sex link and an amber star) I noticed a massive difference in size. About two weeks later I woke up and heard a cockerel crowing so I went to the garden and it was him/her. I'm still in shock

Is it possible for a cockerel to take this long to mature?
I've also heard hens can go through a 'sex change' due to a damaged ovarie could this be the case?

Btw it hasnt yet got any spurs.

I'm trying to upload some pictures of it but I can't seem to do it on my iPad, il try and figure it out ASAP.

You may very well have a late maturing cockerel. I have seen an instance where a hen with a tumor on one of her ovaries when through a 'sex transformation' but that was a 4 or 5 year old RIR that belonged to a friend.

Il try and put some pictures on as soon as possible so you can have a look :)
