Hen under the Weather (I think)

Thanks so much for the list, when Ginger took ill I had to hunt around for the right stuff and still wasn't able to find CoRid which delayed her getting any medication for 10 hours. So I figure if I have what I need on hand it's that much sooner she can get better Is the dewormer that some mentioned the kind you rub on the back of the neck ? I really like that idea quick and simple.

Ginger is feeling better this morning eating and drinking on her own doesn't seem lethargic but her eyes are still closed most of the time. Is that a sympton of cocci?

Ivermectin pour on is the dewormer that you are referring to. 3 drops for a large fowl (LF) chicken and 1 drop for a bantam. The problem with Ivermectin is that is doesn't take care of all internal parasites. I prefer to have a fecal run at the vet's in order to determine if my flock even has worms. Then I know exactly what to use to treat. I keep all the dewormers on hand, just in case.

Okay finally got my hands on some corid(last one) now at what ratio do I mix this stuff? Do I give it to all the birds or just the ones exhibiting symptoms ? I also pick up some DE and plan to do a through cleaning of the coop tonite use the De and change all the little. Is this too much for the birds to handle at once?

thanks kathy

That is a great plan. You can read on the bottle/bag for the proper dosage. If you can't figure it out, post the concentration and dosage on the bottle and someone will help you out.

Thanks to everyone for their help my hen seems to be on the road to recovery more alert, eating on her own and drinking. She's responding to noise and watching bugs fly by. How long after the symptoms of closing her eyes disappears should I keep her segregated from the other birds.

I would treat everyone. If she is up and moving around, I would put her back with the others. Make sure that she is really drinking well before reintroducing. I would then put the Corid in all waterers for 5 - 7 days. Chances are that she is not the only one infected.

I've been putting the corid in all the waterers but now the rooster seems to have some kind of respiratory thing going on soundes like he's snoring when he sleeps
